I know it’s been a while since my last post here. A lot of water flew during that time, lots of things happened. One of them was my new pet project, which I am going to share with you.

It happens that my younger son is starting  secondary school next year. Since in our local area there is a choice of few governemt, Catholic and private schools I wanted to find a way to compare schools performance.

Sure, there is a lot of information readily available on the Internet. There is an excellent Better Education website (it recently improved a lot on the UI side of things 😉 ). Also, some raw data (albeit in the PDF format) is available on the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority website. However, I wanted a bit more functionality,  a DIY approach, and to have a fun in the process.

This is a 20th Jubilee post. And we are on the home run. There is one last major feature that is left to be implemented – a home page that will display few of the Australian stockmarket financial indices, namely – All Ordinaries (AORD), Small Ordinaries (AXSO) and the Industry sector indices listed here. This will provide ‘at a glance’ view of the ASX/Sectors performance. For the charts I will use the same GMMAs as for the companies.

Building Financial Stock Scanner with Ruby on Rails and R. Part 18. Prawns but not the seafood type ones.

Remember that in the Part 1 we established that one of the requirements of our application is to be able access reports on the home network as well as on the Internet.

We have mostly covered the first half. Now let’s talk how can we access reports through the Internet.

For that we need to add prawns to our cocktail of Ruby/Rails/R/Quantmod and Javascript ingredients.
